Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Director of Public Health and Family Welfare Dr K Padmavati on Sunday allayed fears on spread of Human Metapneumo (HMPV) in the State from China. In a press release, she clarified that there are no cases related to HMPV, a new virus identified in China, anywhere in the State. She said that there is no need for people to panic because of the virus.

She said that the virus, which belongs to the pneumovirus family, is transmitted from one person to another in the same way as the coronavirus. She said that the effect of this virus is more among young children and old people and those with low immunity.

The official explained that the virus spreads through the cough and sneezing of those infected with the virus, close contact with them, shaking hands and touching.
